Malta Cycling Federation celebrates season at Annual Awards Dinner

The Malta Cycling Federation (MCF) recently brought the curtain down on the 2025 cycling season by hosting its Annual Awards Dinner, an event that combined celebration with reflection as cyclists from across all categories were honoured for their achievements.
One of the standout moments of the evening was the recognition of Team Greens, who claimed both the Elite Aggregate Cup and the Overall Aggregate Cup following a highly successful season. The awards were presented by MCF President John Zammit, together with Secretary General Joe Bajada and Technical Director Etienne Bonello.
Addressing those present, President Zammit described the past year as an intense and demanding one, while warning that the upcoming season will present even greater challenges. He explained that changes introduced by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) will bring a new format to local competitions, with Malta’s two national championships now being contested in a single race.
Zammit noted that the revised structure aims to provide greater clarity and direction for the domestic racing calendar. The season will now revolve around two main pillars: the National Championships and the National Club Series. As part of this model, every affiliated club will be required to organise at least one race, with some clubs already committing to host multiple events. The MCF President expressed hope that this proactive approach would inspire wider participation from all clubs.
Special mention was also made of the strong turnout of young riders across the various age categories. President Zammit thanked parents and club officials for their invaluable support, stressing their importance in nurturing the next generation of cyclists. He also paid tribute to Secretary General Joe Bajada for his ongoing dedication and hard work within the Federation, before extending festive greetings to all present, wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a healthy and successful New Year.
The Malta Cycling Federation also took the opportunity to thank all cyclists and club officials for their involvement throughout the season. Appreciation was extended to ARRTs Timing System for their professional service, as well as to Local Councils, Transport Malta, the Police, Emergency First Response teams, volunteers, timekeepers and marshals whose efforts ensured the smooth running of events throughout the year.
