Malta Baseball and Softball honoured at WBSC Europe Congress Gala as Day Two Delivers Insight and Collaboration

Saturday, 14 February marked another landmark day for European baseball and softball as the WBSC Europe Congress continued in Malta, combining formal proceedings, strategic workshops, and a celebratory gala that recognised the island’s growing role in the sport.
Official Opening Sets the Tone
Proceedings began with an opening address from WBSC Europe President Kruno Karin, Malta Baseball and Softball Association (MBSA) President Andrew Bajo, and WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari, who all highlighted the importance of collaboration, development pathways, and innovation across the European baseball and softball landscape.
The morning session (09:00 – 12:00) focused on the formal Congress agenda, with delegates from across the continent discussing governance matters, competition structures, and long-term growth strategies for both sports.
Strategic Sessions Drive Development
The afternoon programme (13:00 – 17:30) shifted towards interactive and forward-looking themes, featuring:
- Baseball5 Panel Session – exploring the rapid expansion of the urban discipline and its accessibility for new markets
- Marketing Strategy & Joymo Presentation – examining digital broadcasting, fan engagement, and new commercial opportunities
- Survey and Q&A Workshop – allowing federations to exchange ideas, share challenges, and align on future priorities
These sessions provided practical tools for member federations while reinforcing the Congress’ central theme of modernisation and inclusivity.
Gala Dinner Celebrates Malta’s Contribution
The day concluded with the Official Gala Dinner, offering delegates a valuable opportunity to network in a more informal setting and celebrate the progress of baseball and softball in Europe.
A standout moment of the evening saw Andrew Bajo presented with a commemorative plaque in recognition of Malta’s successful organisation of the WBSC Europe Congress — a significant acknowledgement of the island’s commitment to developing the sport and hosting major international events.
Strong Support Behind the Event
The Congress was made possible through the support of key partners, including:
- Radisson Blu Resort & Spa, Malta Golden Sands
- SAP
- SportMalta
- Visit Malta
- Heritage Malta
Their backing ensured a high-level event that matched the professionalism and ambition of the European baseball and softball community.
A Growing Role for Malta
Hosting the Congress further strengthens Malta’s position as an emerging hub for international sporting meetings and development initiatives. The recognition received during the gala underscores the MBSA’s ongoing work to expand participation, improve facilities, and place Malta firmly on the European baseball and softball map.
With strong dialogue, innovative ideas, and a celebration of shared goals, Day Two of the WBSC Europe Congress delivered both substance and symbolism — highlighting a sport that continues to grow through unity and forward thinking.
