Major successes for Maltese youth players in the doubles

More strong results are arriving from the Maltese contingent at the 2025 European Blackball Championships currently taking place in Ennis, Ireland, as Malta has already secured one gold medal and two silver medals.

In the Under-15 Doubles, Denzel Falzon and Nick Muscat defeated Lukas Williams and Jacob Corbett 3–2 to reach the final, where they will face Tom Seaton and Shaun Murray. Earlier in the competition, Falzon and Muscat had also beaten Bailey Earlston and Riley Smith 3–2.

In the team categories, Malta registered a series of impressive results. In the Under-15 category, Malta A beat Ireland 8–7, while the Maltese Under-23 team defeated Ireland A 15–10.
The Men’s A national team continued to impress, beating Belgium 21–4, while the Grand Masters overcame Gibraltar 11–4.

Meanwhile, the Under-23 Doubles final will be an all-Maltese affair. In the semifinals, Steven Muscat and Nordai Desira sealed a 3–1 win over Kieron Savage and Cohen Bradford, while Chaylon Castaldi and Matthias Debono beat Jack Begley and Brooklyn Chambers 3–1.

In the individual competition, Jason Ward defeated Antoine Schembri 5–3, while Lee Grima edged John Dunne 5–4.
Later in the evening, Mevrick Zammit beat Clayton Castaldi 5–4, Lee Grima secured another win, 5–3 against Mike Webb, Solly Simpson overcame Chaylon Castaldi 5–1, and Liam Mifsud was narrowly defeated 5–4 by Ben Jones.

This morning is set to be a busy one for the Maltese players, with several decisive matches scheduled. These include the all-Maltese Under-23 Doubles final between Nordai Desira / Steven Muscat and Chaylon Castaldi / Matthias Debono at 9am, as well as the Under-15 Doubles final, where Denzel Falzon / Nick Muscat will face Scotland’s Tom Seaton / Shaun Murray.
