Bayern Munich winger Luis Diaz has been handed a three-match suspension for serious foul play following his red card in their 2-1 Champions League win over holders Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month, UEFA confirmed on Friday.

Diaz had scored both goals for Bayern in Paris but was sent off just before halftime for a dangerous tackle on PSG’s Achraf Hakimi. The tackle resulted in a severe sprain to Hakimi’s left ankle, ruling the Moroccan full-back out of action for PSG since the incident.

Hakimi, who was named African Footballer of the Year on Wednesday, appeared on stage using a scooter due to his injury.

Bayern manager Vincent Kompany had initially expected Diaz to miss only the upcoming trip to Arsenal, but the Colombian will also sit out home fixtures against Sporting CP on December 9 and Union Saint-Gilloise on January 21. “My information is that he’s suspended for one game… I would be disappointed if my information is not correct,” Kompany said on Friday.

Bayern currently top their Champions League group with 12 points from four games, maintaining a perfect record alongside their next opponents Arsenal and Inter Milan.
