Liverpool were forced to cancel their pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League encounter with Eintracht Frankfurt after technical problems caused a three-hour delay to their flight from Merseyside.

Ryan Gravenberch was not among the 21-man travelling squad, with the midfielder sidelined by an ankle injury sustained during Sunday’s 2–1 defeat to Manchester United.

The English champions will be desperate to avoid a fifth straight defeat — something the club has not endured in 73 years — as they face a Frankfurt side known for their attacking prowess.

In a statement, Liverpool confirmed:

“Our pre-match press conference for the clash with Eintracht Frankfurt has been cancelled. A delay in the squad’s scheduled flight out to Frankfurt, due to technical issues with the aircraft, means the briefing will now not be able to take place.”

Gravenberch’s absence could pave the way for Florian Wirtz to make his return to the starting lineup in his home country. The 21-year-old has been left out of Arne Slot’s last two Premier League selections following a slow start to life at Anfield after his £100 million move from Bayer Leverkusen.

Hugo Ekitike is also expected to feature against his former club, having joined Liverpool from Frankfurt in a £69 million deal during the summer.

Both sides enter the fixture level on three points from their opening two Champions League matches.
