Liverpool exploring centre-back alternatives as Konaté’s future remains uncertain

Liverpool are actively preparing for the possibility of life without Ibrahima Konaté as uncertainty over his contract continues to mount.
Discussions over a new deal have so far failed to produce a breakthrough, and sources suggest that a departure is now the most likely outcome. The club has made its stance clear: even if Konaté is willing to re-enter talks, Liverpool have no plans to improve on the terms already offered.
With that position established, the focus has shifted to potential replacements. Liverpool moved early to sign young defender Jeremy Jacquet, but recruitment plans are set to continue if Konaté leaves.
Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven is reportedly high on Liverpool’s shortlist, seen as a strong fit for the club’s system and style. Nottingham Forest’s Murillo is also being monitored within the Premier League, while Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck is another option under consideration.
Konaté’s situation has attracted interest from multiple high-profile suitors. Real Madrid has long admired the French defender, while a move to Saudi Arabia is also being floated—a path similar to what Mohamed Salah might take amid his own Anfield uncertainty.
Liverpool are also exploring long-term options closer to home, including the possibility of activating a £52 million buy-back clause for Jarell Quansah.
For now, Liverpool’s defensive plans remain contingent on Konaté’s next move, but preparations are clearly in motion to secure a replacement for the French international.
