Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted his side were to blame after Leeds snatched a dramatic 3–3 draw at Elland Road, throwing away another two Premier League points.

The Reds twice looked in control, racing into a 2–0 lead through Hugo Ekitike’s brace and regaining the advantage at 3–2 via Dominik Szoboszlai after Leeds had equalised. Yet Liverpool’s continued struggles from set pieces proved costly once more, as Ao Tanaka fired in a stoppage-time corner to deny Slot’s side victory.

Liverpool have now won just two of their last 10 Premier League games and four of 15 across all competitions, adding pressure on Slot despite his title-winning debut season at Anfield.

“It’s not the first time we drop points, the first time we concede a last-minute goal, or the first time we give away a set-piece goal,” Slot said. “The only ones to blame are ourselves. If you score three goals, it should be enough to win a game, especially when we don’t concede many chances.”

Mohamed Salah was left on the bench for a third consecutive match and was not introduced as a substitute, while club record signing Alexander Isak also started on the bench. Slot justified the decision to start Ekitike, noting the French striker delivered for the team.

With Salah set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations after Liverpool’s next two matches, Slot remained non-committal on the Egyptian’s long-term future at Anfield.

“Today it felt we needed different players to bring the win over the line,” Slot explained regarding Salah’s omission. “We have to accept the situation we are in. The short-term future of Mo is he goes to AFCON, but first we play Inter and Brighton.”
