Lewandowski ruled out of Barcelona’s cup semi-final clash with Atletico Madrid

FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski will miss his side’s Copa del Rey semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid after sustaining a fractured eye socket, the Catalan club confirmed on Sunday.
“Lewandowski picked up an injury in the recent game against Villarreal. Tests have diagnosed a fracture of the left eye socket,” Barcelona said in a statement. “He will miss the game against Atletico Madrid.”
The setback is another blow for the Copa del Rey holders, who are already facing an uphill task after suffering a 4-0 defeat in the first leg against Diego Simeone’s side at the start of February.
Lewandowski, 37, has played a reduced role this season, frequently starting matches on the bench as Ferran Torres has been preferred in attack. However, the former Bayern Munich forward made an impact as a substitute in Saturday’s 4-1 LaLiga victory over Villarreal, scoring Barcelona’s fourth goal.
His absence now leaves Barca without one of their most experienced forwards as they attempt to overturn a heavy first-leg deficit and keep their cup hopes alive.
