Leeds United piled further misery on already-relegated Burnley, claiming a 3-1 win that all but guarantees their Premier League safety.

With their relegation already confirmed, Burnley were playing for pride, but their performance showed little sign of that early on.

The Clarets were under pressure from the outset and quickly fell behind in unfortunate fashion. Anton Stach’s long-range effort appeared harmless, yet it somehow slipped past Martin Dubravka at the near post to give Leeds the lead.

Stach remained involved as Leeds nearly doubled their advantage soon after. This time, he set up Ao Tanaka, who fired his effort over the bar. Moments later, Stach nearly compounded his struggles when he slipped inside his own penalty area, but Jaidon Anthony failed to capitalize.

It seemed Burnley’s only route back into the game would come from a Leeds mistake. Although they gradually grew into the contest, they never looked capable of troubling Karl Darlow.

Mike Jackson’s side endured a disjointed first half, failing to register a single shot on target. Their expected goals (xG) stood at just 0.05 by the break—barely avoiding the lowest figure ever recorded in the Premier League (0.02)—in what was otherwise a lackluster opening 45 minutes.

Burnley’s blunt attack meant a second Leeds goal always felt decisive, and it arrived within 10 minutes of the restart.

Leeds came out sharply after the break, and a flowing move was finished off when Jayden Bogle delivered an excellent cross for Noah Okafor, who guided his effort back across goal and into the corner.

A quick third goal effectively sealed the result. Ao Tanaka’s powerful strike from distance was spilled into the path of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scrambled the ball over the line from close range.

To their credit, Burnley showed some fight and thought they had pulled one back when Lucas Pires turned in from close range, but the goal was ruled out after Bashir Humphreys’ initial effort had been saved.

They eventually got on the scoresheet through Loum Tchaouna, who fired home from inside the box.

However, it proved little more than a consolation, as Leeds moved nine points clear of the relegation zone and edged to within touching distance of safety with just three games remaining.
