Lecce boost survival hopes with commanding win over Cagliari

Lecce secured a crucial 2-0 away win over Cagliari, with goals from Omri Gandelman and Ylber Ramadani lifting them three points clear of the Serie A relegation zone.
Before the trip to the Unipol Domus Stadium, Lecce had managed just six goals in 11 away matches, making them the lowest scorers on the road in Italy’s top flight. Early on, it seemed Cagliari might take the lead when Leonardo Pavoletti powered a header over the bar from close range.
Despite the hosts’ early pressure, Lecce began to threaten on the counter-attack. Walid Chaddira’s initial effort was comfortably saved by Elia Caprile, while Riccardo Sottil dragged a shot high after Sebastiano Esposito was caught out in midfield. Cagliari nearly punished Lecce for their missed chances, with Gabriele Zappa firing wide and Pavoletti’s cross headed over by Ibrahim Sulemana.
As the match wore on, Lecce intensified their threat. Chaddira came close again with a header into the bottom-left corner, only for Caprile to produce a stunning save. But the breakthrough arrived when Gandelman met Sottil’s brilliant set-piece with a glancing header that the Cagliari goalkeeper could not stop.
The goal lifted Lecce and deflated the hosts, and the visitors wrapped up the win with just over 15 minutes remaining. Ramadani unleashed a thunderous shot into the bottom-left corner, confirmed after a VAR review, giving Lecce only their third league away win of the season.
The victory moves Lecce three points above 18th-placed Fiorentina and within touching distance of mid-table Cagliari.
