Lazio Remain in Serie A’s Bottom Half After Goalless Draw with Pisa

Pisa’s long wait for a Serie A victory — stretching back more than 34 years — continues, after Alberto Gilardino’s side were held to a goalless draw by Lazio at the Arena Garibaldi. The result, however, does lift the Nerazzurri out of the relegation zone.
Heading into the match, Pisa were still searching for their first home goal of the season, and that drought nearly continued in frustrating fashion when Matteo Tramoni spurned a golden chance just seven minutes in.
Their struggles in front of goal persisted midway through the first half. A fine cross from Juan Cuadrado found Idrissa Touré unmarked inside the box, but the midfielder somehow failed to hit the target from close range.
Lazio began to grow into the game and almost took the lead just after the half-hour mark. Pisa goalkeeper Adrian Šemper was called into action with an excellent save to deny Gustav Isaksen after a clever run and pass from Tramoni. Moments later, Toma Bašić came even closer, his powerful long-range effort crashing against the post.
The second half produced few moments of quality, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances. Isaksen came close again when his close-range shot rippled the side netting, while Pisa substitute Stefano Moreo nearly broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute, forcing Ivan Provedel into a sharp save from a corner.
Touré then headed narrowly wide as Pisa pushed for a late winner, but neither team could find the decisive touch before full time.
Despite their continued goal-scoring woes — just five goals in nine league games — Pisa can take some comfort from moving out of the bottom three. For Lazio, the point sees them climb to 11th in the table and extend their unbeaten run to five matches.
