Lazio Move Into Serie A’s Top Half Despite Unconvincing Display Against Cagliari

A sensational strike from Gustav Isaksen helped Lazio secure a 2–0 victory over Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico, moving Maurizio Sarri’s side into the top half of Serie A and extending their unbeaten run to six matches.
Despite coming in as underdogs, Cagliari made the brighter start, with Michael Folorunsho forcing Ivan Provedel into an early save from the edge of the area. That effort sparked Lazio into life, and the hosts soon carved out several clear chances.
Toma Basic, fresh off his match-winning display against Juventus, fired over from close range after fine work by Mattia Zaccagni, who moments later dragged another golden opportunity wide. Adam Marušić then came close with a curling effort that was superbly turned away by Elia Caprile, but the visitors survived the pressure and nearly struck just before half-time when Sebastiano Luperto’s goal-bound attempt was brilliantly blocked by Mario Gila.
Cagliari, buoyed by the return of centre-backs Luperto and Yerry Mina, looked more defensively assured and could have gone ahead shortly after the break. However, Gianluca Gaetano’s weak finish was comfortably gathered by Provedel.
With the game drifting towards a stalemate, Lazio finally found their breakthrough in the 66th minute through Isaksen, who produced a moment of individual brilliance. The Danish winger, sidelined earlier in the season with glandular fever, cut inside from the right before bending a superb shot into the far corner from 20 yards — a strike worthy of winning any match.
Cagliari pushed for an equaliser late on, with Leonardo Pavoletti narrowly missing Matteo Prati’s dangerous cross, but Lazio held firm. Zaccagni added a stoppage-time goal to secure all three points and lift the Biancocelesti up to eighth place.
For Fabio Pisacane’s side, the defeat leaves them 14th, winless in six games, and just three points above the relegation zone.
