San Ġwann struck deep into stoppage time to salvage a precious point in a dramatic 1–1 draw against Xgħajra Tornados in a BOV Amateur League I encounter played at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

Xgħajra made a dream start and stunned their opponents after just five minutes when Richmond Baratuipre Hanson found the back of the net to give the Tornados an early lead. The goal allowed Xgħajra to settle into the match with confidence, as they focused on keeping their shape and frustrating San Ġwann’s attempts to respond.

San Ġwann enjoyed more of the possession for long stretches but struggled to break down a disciplined Xgħajra defence, with clear-cut chances proving hard to come by. As the match progressed, Xgħajra continued to look dangerous on the counter, while San Ġwann pushed numbers forward in search of an equaliser.

Just when it seemed Xgħajra were on course to secure all three points, San Ġwann found a lifeline in the dying moments. Two minutes into added time, Myron Micallef was in the right place at the right time to slot home the equaliser, sparking celebrations for San Ġwann and denying Xgħajra a valuable victory. Despite the draw, Xgħajra moved up to 11 points, maintaining a steady position in the middle of the table.

In the other match played from the same round, Victoria Hotspurs edged past Mellieħa with a narrow 1–0 victory. The decisive moment came on 25 minutes when Rondinely struck the winning goal, a result that allowed Victoria to remain firmly in the promotion chase.

Following these results, Attard continue to lead the standings with 24 points, closely followed by Qormi on 21. Mqabba and Victoria Hotspurs are joint third on 19 points, with Qrendi on 18. Lija and San Ġwann are both on 17 points, while Żejtun have 13. Pembroke and Mellieħa sit on 11 points, alongside Xgħajra Tornados, Kirkop have 9, Luqa 7 and Senglea remain at the foot of the table with 4 points.
