Late Como goal earns draw against 10-man Bologna

Bologna were denied a crucial away victory deep into stoppage time as Como snatched a dramatic 1-1 draw at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, extending the Rossoblù’s winless run in Serie A to seven matches.
Despite their recent struggles, Bologna nearly made the perfect start. Inside the opening minute, Nicolò Cambiaghi tested Jean Butez with a powerful effort, forcing the Como goalkeeper into an excellent reflex save.
The hosts responded positively to that early scare, registering their first effort on target in the seventh minute when Jesús Rodríguez fired straight at Federico Ravaglia. However, Bologna’s goalkeeper was forced into a far more demanding stop midway through the first half, reacting sharply to keep out Nico Paz’s long-range strike.
Como continued to push as half-time approached and came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock. Captain Lucas Da Cunha delivered a sublime cross from the left, seemingly teeing up Mërgim Vojvoda for a simple finish from close range, only for Remo Freuler to produce a heroic last-ditch interception to preserve parity at the interval.
The Lariani carried their momentum into the second half, and Rodríguez almost made the breakthrough after weaving past two defenders, but the Spaniard scuffed his close-range effort wide. That miss soon proved costly.
Moments later, Bologna capitalised on a turnover in midfield as Cambiaghi burst into the penalty area and calmly poked a left-footed finish past Butez to give the visitors the lead.
Cambiaghi’s celebrations were short-lived, however. Ten minutes after scoring, the winger was shown a straight red card following a VAR review for an elbow on Ignace Van der Brempt, leaving Bologna to defend their advantage with ten men.
The drama continued after the hour mark when referee Rosario Abisso initially awarded Como a penalty for what appeared to be a foul on Anastasios Douvikas by Martin Vitík. After consulting the pitchside monitor, the decision was overturned, much to the frustration of the home crowd.
Spurred on by that moment, Como laid siege to Bologna’s goal in the closing stages. Paz struck the woodwork from 15 yards, while Maxence Caqueret squandered another promising opportunity as the visitors clung on.
But Bologna’s resistance finally crumbled deep into stoppage time. Martin Baturina produced a stunning finish to spark wild celebrations inside the Sinigaglia and earn Como a deserved point.
Although Cesc Fàbregas’ side saw their three-match winning streak come to an end, they remain sixth in the table, just two points adrift of the top four. Bologna stay seventh and will look to end their winless run when they face Hellas Verona away on Thursday.
