Late Blow for England national football team as Uruguay national football team Strike in Added Time, with White Involved

England national football team began their FIFA World Cup preparations with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Uruguay national football team, a result that ended England’s seven-match winning streak without conceding a goal.
With several key players rested at Wembley, manager Thomas Tuchel fielded an experimental starting XI, and the lack of cohesion was evident early on as England struggled to break into Uruguay’s defensive third.
Despite largely controlling possession before half-time, England failed to create clear-cut chances. A tame effort from Dominic Solanke was comfortably dealt with by Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, highlighting their struggles in the final third during the opening period.
The first half’s main talking point came from a controversial moment when Ronald Araújo delivered a high challenge on Phil Foden, which went unpunished despite leaving the England midfielder in visible discomfort. Fortunately for England supporters, Foden was able to continue, although he was later replaced by Cole Palmer.
After the break, England gradually increased their threat. Palmer, keen to make an impact after returning from injury, delivered a dangerous cross on 70 minutes that found Dominic Calvert-Lewin unmarked inside the box, but the striker headed wide from close range when it seemed easier to score.
England eventually broke the deadlock through Ben White, who marked his return to international duty with a goal. Palmer’s corner caused confusion in the Uruguay penalty area, and after Muslera made an initial save, White reacted quickest to tap the ball home from close range.
However, England were unable to hold onto their lead, as Uruguay responded late on to secure a draw, ensuring the match ended in disappointment for the hosts despite a promising display in parts.
A controversial passage of play saw Manuel Ugarte shown two yellow cards without being dismissed, with the second booking later appearing to be rescinded.
The referee’s decisions continued to influence the closing stages, as Uruguay were awarded a penalty in added time with virtually the final meaningful action of the match.
In a dramatic twist, Ben White, who had earlier scored, conceded the decisive spot-kick after being penalised for a foul inside the area. Federico Valverde then stepped up and calmly converted from 12 yards, placing his effort into the bottom corner to secure the equaliser and end England national football team’s defensive run, having not conceded since June.
