Kavallieri-Cus-Catania-scaled Kavallieri RFC edge CUS Catania in spirited friendly clash

Kavallieri RFC hosted CUS Catania in a friendly encounter that perfectly captured the spirit of rugby — intensity on the pitch, and camaraderie off it.

With the main ground still undergoing maintenance, the fixture was played on the club’s training pitch. But thanks to a well-organised Kavallieri committee, their Sicilian visitors enjoyed first-class hospitality and a flawless setup.

The match itself delivered exactly what the supporters had come to see: fast, attacking rugby from both sides and relentless commitment in defence. Kavallieri battled their way to a 26–19 victory, but it was the post-match scenes that truly stole the show. As the final whistle blew, players formed a tunnel to salute their opponents before gathering for food, drinks, and laughter — a perfect display of the rugby ethos.

The spirit of the occasion carried into Sunday morning at the Seminary Grounds in Rabat, where coaches, parents, Kavallieri girls’ U14 and U16 squads, and members of the visiting Catania team came together for a fun flag rugby tournament.

CUS Catania’s management expressed their heartfelt thanks to Kavallieri for their hospitality and sportsmanship, extending an invitation for a return match in Sicily.

Once again, rugby was the real winner this weekend — both on and off the field.
