With England trailing France 2–1 in Qatar, Harry Kane — who had already converted one penalty earlier in the match — missed the chance to equalize, sending his second spot-kick over the crossbar.

“I’d say that was probably the lowest moment I’ve ever felt,” Kane told British media. “Obviously, I’ve lost finals before, but to have that responsibility — it almost felt like it all fell on my shoulders. Not being able to execute something I’ve done successfully so many times in my career was the hardest part to process and accept.”

Reflecting on that painful night, Kane admitted he is motivated to make amends on football’s biggest stage. “If that’s my last World Cup memory, then I’m definitely looking forward to the next one — to put things right, to go further, and hopefully lift the trophy, as we all dream of doing.”

England sealed their place at the 2026 World Cup with a dominant 5–0 win over Latvia on Tuesday, a match in which Kane scored twice to take his international tally to 76 goals.

When asked if reaching 100 goals for England was a realistic target, the 32-year-old striker was optimistic. “The way I’m feeling right now, I’m not slowing down any time soon,” he said. “The goals are coming, and the numbers speak for themselves. Physically, mentally, and even off the ball — pressing and reading the game — I feel in a really good place.”
