Jurgen Klopp linked with Real Madrid role after Liverpool exit

Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is reportedly open to taking over at Real Madrid should the Spanish giants make a firm offer.
The German coach moved quickly this week to play down speculation linking him with Los Blancos, following the club’s decision to part ways with Xabi Alonso and their subsequent elimination from the Copa del Rey. Speaking at the time, Klopp said: “First of all, I think it’s another sign that something isn’t quite right there at the moment. This has absolutely nothing to do with me, and it didn’t trigger anything for me either.”
Klopp is currently enjoying his role as Head of Global Soccer for the Red Bull group, and recent reports had suggested he would not return to club management in the near future. However, journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed the situation may be more nuanced.
“Jürgen Klopp is seriously considering a return to coaching if Real Madrid make a concrete move for the summer,” Plettenberg reported. “Real Madrid have always fascinated him. He is happy at Red Bull and strongly identifies with the project, but there are at least two opportunities for which he would return if everything fits: Real Madrid and the German national team. Klopp and Real Madrid is one to watch for summer 2026.”
Klopp has previously stated he would “never coach another team in England” after Liverpool, though he has never ruled out managing one of the Reds’ major European rivals.
While Klopp appears settled in an executive role, the prospect of leading Real Madrid—one of football’s most iconic clubs—could prove difficult to resist should the opportunity arise.
