A joint integrity review is currently underway following allegations of irregular betting activities linked to the European Water Polo Championships held in Belgrade this past January.

European Aquatics confirmed that the matter is being treated with the utmost seriousness, underlining that integrity in sport remains a fundamental and non-negotiable priority. The governing body issued an official communication announcing that the case is now under formal review.

In a coordinated effort, European Aquatics has partnered with World Aquatics and the Aquatics Sports Association of Malta (ASA) to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation. Two leading international integrity bodies have been entrusted with overseeing the process.

This collaborative approach reflects a unified commitment among all parties to uphold the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and the protection of water polo’s reputation.

The Integrity Units of World Aquatics, European Aquatics, and ASA Malta are working closely together under a clear agreement, sharing information and aligning procedures throughout the investigation. The review is being conducted by an Independent Integrity Unit in cooperation with the Aquatics Integrity Unit and ASA Malta.

ASA President Karl Izzo has been acknowledged for his cooperation and diligence during the process, as authorities continue to examine all available information.

While no conclusions have yet been drawn, officials have reiterated their full support for the ongoing investigation and expressed hope for a timely resolution.

The outcome of the review is expected to play a crucial role in reinforcing trust and safeguarding the integrity of water polo at both European and international levels.
