Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that striker Alexander Isak picked up a groin injury during their 5-1 Champions League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday.

The win marked a return to form for Slot’s side, who had lost their previous four matches across all competitions. British record signing Isak, 26, started alongside Hugo Ekitike but was substituted at half-time.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Slot revealed the reason for Isak’s early exit.

“Hugo got a big chance and he scored it,” Slot said. “Alex had a few opportunities. Unfortunately, he didn’t score yet, but he had to go off at half-time because he felt his groin a little bit. That’s a pity.”

The Liverpool boss also emphasized the challenges of managing a player returning from a long-term absence.

“I’ve said it many times, it’s such a difficult balance to find with a player who missed out for three months. You have to bring him back slowly,” he explained. “Some people may argue that you should play him more often, but now we’ve played him for the second time in three days, and unfortunately, he had to come off. Let’s hope for the best. It’s not an easy balance to strike after such a long time out.”

Isak’s injury will be monitored closely ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming fixtures, with hopes that the Swedish striker can return to full fitness soon.
