As Manchester City approach the decisive stages of the season, attention would normally be fixed on their pursuit of more silverware.

Instead, a different storyline is beginning to gather momentum — one that could soon dominate the narrative around the club.

Is Pep Guardiola preparing to walk away this summer?

Despite being under contract until 2027, there is growing speculation within football circles that the six-time Premier League-winning manager may be nearing the end of his remarkable spell at the Etihad Stadium.

Should Guardiola depart, it would mark the conclusion of an era that began in 2016 — a period in which he transformed English football and established City as the dominant domestic force.

Sources close to the club suggest there is an increasing sense that his time in Manchester may be approaching its natural conclusion. After nearly a decade at the highest level, the relentless demands of elite management, combined with personal changes off the pitch, may be starting to take their toll.

City’s recent dip in domestic dominance has added to the uncertainty. After surrendering the Premier League title to Liverpool last season, they now find themselves chasing Arsenal at the summit. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Guardiola’s relationship with his wife, Cristina Serra, has faced difficulties since his most recent contract extension.

If Guardiola does choose to move on, he is unlikely to lack opportunities. An international coaching role has long been linked to him, while interest from Saudi Arabia could also present financially lucrative options.

For now, however, the City manager remains focused on the challenges ahead.

A Carabao Cup final against Arsenal awaits, while the club are still competing in the FA Cup and Champions League. They also remain firmly in the title race, sitting six points behind the league leaders.

Much may depend on how the season concludes. Falling short of their targets could prompt Guardiola to consider that a fresh voice is needed. Alternatively, lifting major trophies may persuade him to depart on a high.

Either way, the possibility that this could be Guardiola’s final campaign in charge is no longer easily dismissed — and continues to grow with each passing week.
