Iraola keen for Bournemouth to retain Semenyo amid growing interest

Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola has addressed speculation surrounding Antoine Semenyo amid growing interest from several Premier League clubs.
Semenyo is shaping up to be one of the most in-demand players of the January transfer window, with Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United all reportedly preparing bids for the 25-year-old forward.
Interest in Semenyo has intensified since it emerged that his contract includes a £65 million release clause, leaving Bournemouth braced for the possibility of losing one of their standout performers. Despite the noise surrounding his future, Iraola has made it clear he would prefer to keep the attacker at the club.
Speaking at his latest press conference, Iraola said:
“Semenyo is with us right now. He trained with us today. I know there is a lot of noise around him, but my concern is that it doesn’t affect his performances. So far, it hasn’t. He is very committed to the team and I hope we can keep him here.
“We cannot control the situation, but Antoine is our player and he will continue playing for us. If you ask me, I definitely don’t want to lose him. But every time the market opens, you never know what is going to happen.”
Semenyo’s form this season has done little to quiet the speculation. The forward has scored eight goals and provided three assists in all competitions, establishing himself as a key figure in Iraola’s side.
When asked why so many clubs are targeting Semenyo, Iraola acknowledged the player’s impact but played down the idea that Bournemouth are alone in facing such interest.
“He is performing amazingly well,” Iraola added. “But a lot of wingers across the league are also performing very well. Nearly every team has a difference-maker, especially in attack. I don’t know what is going to happen in the winter market.”
