Igor Thiago has signed a new five-year contract with Brentford, committing his future to the Premier League side in a deal that could keep him in west London until 2031.

The 24-year-old striker has enjoyed a superb campaign, scoring 17 goals in 26 league appearances and emerging as one of the division’s most prolific forwards. On the same day his new contract was announced, Thiago was also named the club’s Player of the Month for January, underlining his importance to the Bees’ impressive season.

Head coach Keith Andrews praised both the player’s character and his influence on the team.

“The connection that he has with his teammates, the staff and the fans, as well as how much the club means to him and he means to us, is pretty evident for everybody to see,” Andrews said.

“Again, it’s the person before the player. I love working with him, and I’ve loved seeing his evolution as a player. How he plays is such a big part of how we play and what our season has been so far.

“He’s been a massive player for us, so it’s a contract he thoroughly deserves, and I’m really happy that the club have been able to get it done.”

Thiago joined Brentford from Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad after a spell with Belgian giants Club Brugge in February 2024. However, a meniscus injury delayed his debut until November later that year.

Since then, he has not looked back. His 17 Premier League goals this season are bettered only by Erling Haaland, highlighting the scale of his breakthrough in English football.

Brentford, who drew with Arsenal in midweek, return to action on Monday night in the FA Cup when they face non-league side Macclesfield Town.
