Ħamrun Spartans and Lausanne are set for a historic UEFA Conference League encounter in Malta, as both sides look to build on contrasting starts to their debut campaigns in the competition.

Match News and Current Form

Ħamrun made history earlier this month by becoming the first Maltese club to reach the main draw of a major European competition. Despite a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Jagiellonia Białystok on matchday one, the Spartans earned plenty of respect for their resilience during a gruelling run of seven matches in just 23 days.

Following the international break and an additional weekend off, the Maltese champions have had valuable time to recover and prepare for this crucial home fixture. Though they are unbeaten in five competitive games as designated hosts (W3, D2), Ħamrun will once again play at the Maltese National Stadium rather than their usual ground, which does not meet UEFA standards.

Their opponents, Swiss side Lausanne, are also experiencing their first Conference League group-stage adventure — 15 years after their last appearance in a European main draw during the 2010/11 Europa League. They opened this campaign in style, thrashing Icelandic outfit Breiðablik 3-0 on matchday one, part of a six-game unbeaten run in all competitions (W3, D3).

While Lausanne have struggled on the road recently with just one win from their last five away matches (D3, L1), they’ll take confidence from two victories in three away fixtures during Conference League qualifying this season.
