Hibernians FC have announced the departure of head coach Branko Nisevic by mutual consent, with assistant coach Andrei Agius stepping up as the new man in charge.

The decision follows the Paolites’ 3-2 defeat to Gżira United in the FA Trophy, a result that marked the club’s fourth consecutive loss in all competitions and prompted a change in leadership.

In a statement, the Premier League side confirmed that the termination of Nisevic’s contract was agreed amicably, thanking him for his work, commitment and professionalism during his tenure while wishing him well for the future.

The club also confirmed that Agius will take over as head coach, with Igor Bubnjić continuing as part of the technical staff after joining the setup in November.

Agius faces an immediate challenge as he attempts to revive Hibernians’ push for a Top Six finish. The Paolites currently sit ninth in the standings on 10 points, two behind Valletta and Sliema, with seven teams contesting the four available spots.

The former Malta international defender is set to take charge of his first match on Saturday when Hibernians face Valletta in a crucial league encounter.
