‘Heartbroken’ Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from Davis Cup Finals due to hamstring swelling

The Spaniard aggravated the injury during the ATP Finals, where he lost to Jannik Sinner in Sunday’s title match. His decision to pull out is another blow for the International Tennis Federation ahead of the tournament.
“I’m so sorry to announce that I won’t be able to play for Spain in the Davis Cup in Bologna,” Alcaraz wrote on Instagram.
“I have edema in my right hamstring and the medical recommendation is not to compete. I’ve always said that playing for Spain is the greatest thing there is, and I was really looking forward to helping us fight for the Davis Cup. I’m going home heartbroken.”
Alcaraz’s withdrawal follows that of world number two Sinner, who pulled out last month, leaving defending champions Italy already missing a key player. Lorenzo Musetti has also withdrawn from the tournament for physical and family reasons, with Lorenzo Sonego expected to take his place after training in Turin in recent days.
In the quarter-finals, Italy will face Austria on Wednesday, while Spain are scheduled to meet the Czech Republic on Thursday. The Davis Cup final is set for Sunday.
