Bayern Munich extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to nine points with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt at the Allianz Arena, leaving Die Adler winless in their last eight away matches.

Bayern’s dominance, hinted at in last week’s 3-0 rout of Werder Bremen, was evident from the outset. Frankfurt struggled to escape their own half, and it didn’t take long for the hosts to strike.

A corner was only cleared to the edge of the box, where Aleksandar Pavlović volleyed it home, despite a touch from Kauã Santos that should have kept the ball out.

Just four minutes later, Bayern doubled their lead through another corner. Michael Olise delivered from the left, Josip Stanišić flicked it on to Harry Kane, who nodded in his 27th Bundesliga goal of the season.

Bayern looked in complete control, with Jamal Musiala firing wide on his first league start of the campaign and Jean-Mattéo Bahoya registering Frankfurt’s only first-half shot on target, comfortably saved by stand-in goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.

The second half brought more chances for Bayern. Olise, Luis Díaz and Kane all tested Santos, while Olise curled agonisingly wide. Frankfurt made a triple substitution on the hour, and Jonathan Burkardt, returning from injury, saw his chipped effort come back off the post.

Bayern capitalised on that reprieve, with Kane curling home from distance on his weaker left foot for his 90th Bundesliga goal.

However, Kane later conceded a penalty with a clumsy trip on Oscar Højlund pressed on and pulled within one after a disastrous square pass from Joshua Kimmich was seized upon by Arnaud Kalimuendo-Bayern midfielder Mario Götze had Frankfurt’s best chance to equalise but fired over, leaving Riera’s side eight points outside the top six.

Bayern remain firmly in control at the summit of the Bundesliga, but another shaky second-half display raises questions ahead of next week’s Der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund.
