Ħamrun Spartans Football Club have confirmed that Bosnian forward Semir Smajlagić will not be continuing his spell with the Maltese champions in the second half of the current season. The club announced the decision through an official statement, confirming that both parties reached a mutual agreement to terminate the player’s contract.

The 27-year-old striker, a former Bosnia and Herzegovina Under-19 international, joined Ħamrun Spartans last summer from South Korean side Chungnam Asan, bringing with him considerable experience, particularly from the Slovenian top division, where he had previously featured extensively.

Smajlagić made a total of 17 appearances for the Spartans across three competitions — the Malta Premier League, the Jubilee Cup, and the UEFA Europa Conference League. During this period, he scored three goals, including two league strikes in wins against Hibernians FC and Birkirkara FC. He also played a key role in European competition, scoring in Ħamrun’s historic 3–1 victory over Lincoln FC during the league phase of the UEFA Conference League.

In addition to Smajlagić’s departure, Ħamrun Spartans also confirmed that they have mutually agreed to terminate the contract of Ante Ćorić. The club expressed its appreciation for the Croatian midfielder’s contribution during his time with the team.

“The Club would like to sincerely thank Ante for his professionalism, commitment, and valuable contribution during his time with Hamrun Spartans, and wishes him every success in the next chapter of his career,” the statement read.

While the future destinations of both players remain uncertain, Ħamrun Spartans were keen to underline their gratitude to the departing duo. The club thanked them for their professionalism and dedication, as the reigning champions continue to reshape their squad ahead of the decisive stages of the season.

The departures form part of Ħamrun Spartans’ ongoing squad adjustments as they aim to maintain their domestic dominance while remaining competitive on the European stage.
