Haaland signals title ambitions as Man City stay in race

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland sent a clear message to Premier League leaders Arsenal after his side secured a rare victory at Anfield on Sunday.
City had previously won at Anfield only once under Pep Guardiola, and that came during the Covid-19–restricted 2020/21 season. Yet Guardiola’s side overcame the odds to defeat Liverpool, keeping the pressure on Arsenal in the title race.
Speaking after the game, Haaland reflected on the historic win and addressed the league leaders:
“Of course, and look at the emotions with the fans in the end—it was amazing. They deserve it after supporting us week in, week out. They definitely deserve to win at Anfield,” Haaland said.
“I’ve never won here before, so it’s incredible to come and win for the first time. As everyone knows, it’s not easy because of the history between City and Liverpool over the last decade. So, of course, it’s a good feeling.”
On the importance of the result, he added: “It’s three points, simple as that—no matter who you play, whether it’s Tottenham or anyone else. But I know what you mean. We’ve seen before that the title race is not over until it’s over.”
Sunday’s victory also secured a league double over Liverpool for City for the first time since the 1936/37 season, as Guardiola’s team aims to claw back the Premier League crown.
With Fulham next up on Wednesday, a win could reduce Arsenal’s lead at the top to just three points. The Gunners face a challenging trip to Brentford, leaving manager Mikel Arteta under increasing pressure.
