Guardiola stays tight-lipped on Man City future after title hopes fade

Pep Guardiola revealed he plans to hold talks with Manchester City’s leadership after a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth officially ended their Premier League title challenge.
The result at the Vitality Stadium crowned Arsenal champions, ending the London club’s 22-year wait for the trophy.
Reports circulating on Monday claimed Guardiola could step away from his role following City’s final league match of the season against Aston Villa.
The club has not yet issued any official comment regarding the speculation.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Guardiola said: “I still have one year remaining on my contract, and these are conversations we’ve had over many years. From my experience, making announcements while the season is ongoing is never ideal.”
He added: “The first person I need to speak with is the chairman. Once the season ends, we will sit down together, discuss everything, and then make a decision.”
Guardiola said he would keep any decision about his future private until he had spoken with those closest to the club.
“I’m not going to discuss it here because first I need to speak with the chairman, the players, and my staff,” he said. “While we are still competing in the FA Cup and Premier League, my full focus is on helping the team perform at its best.”
If Guardiola does decide to leave, it would mark the end of one of the greatest managerial eras in English football.
Since taking charge of Manchester City in 2016, the 55-year-old has guided the club to 20 major trophies, including six Premier League crowns and a Champions League title.
Former City assistant Enzo Maresca is reportedly among the leading candidates to succeed Guardiola. The Italian has been without a job since departing Chelsea earlier this year.
