Guardiola Praises Bernardo Silva, Comparing Him to Messi and Mahrez After City’s Win Over Villarreal

Erling Haaland and Bernardo Silva’s goals secured Manchester City’s victory, but Pep Guardiola reserved special praise for John Stones, Rico Lewis, and captain Bernardo Silva.
Reflecting on Stones’ composed and elegant performance, Guardiola said: “Really good. Top. He knows how to play his position, he’s very smart, and he helps us. I’m really pleased with his performance. During the Treble-winning season, he had an exceptional year and was a key player.”
The manager also highlighted the scorers’ contributions: “I’m pleased Erling scored again and delighted Bernardo scored an incredible header.”
Guardiola drew a striking comparison for Bernardo Silva, noting: “Bernardo is like Mahrez and Messi—so small but so effective in aerial duels.”
Looking at the team’s overall display, he added: “If you analyse the first half and some moments in the second, we created good chances. We delivered a strong performance. I know the Spanish fans understand that Villarreal is a top, top team.”
