Gharb Rangers and Sannat Lions close the gap in thrilling MD11 encounters


The GFA BOV Gozo Football League 2nd Division heated up this past Saturday, February 21, 2026, as Matchday 11 action at the Kercem Stadium delivered late drama and a significant shift in the promotion race.
Gharb Rangers FC 4-2 Oratory Youths FC
Gharb Rangers staged a remarkable second-half comeback to overcome a two-goal deficit against Oratory Youths. The Youths looked set for an upset early on, with Geordie Ellis clinical in front of goal, netting twice in three minutes (22’, 24’) to give Oratory a 2-0 lead.
However, the Rangers emerged transformed after the interval. Luke Sultana kickstarted the recovery in the 51st minute, followed immediately by an equalizer from Oliver Cremona just two minutes later. Sultana grabbed his second in the 64th minute to put Gharb ahead for the first time, and Aud-Gustine James Obaje sealed the three points in the 84th minute. The win keeps Gharb firmly in the hunt for the title.
Sannat Lions FC 2-1 Zebbug Rovers FC
In a high-stakes clash for the top spots, Sannat Lions secured a vital victory over Zebbug Rovers thanks to a dramatic stoppage-time winner. Tristan Agius gave the Lions an early advantage in the 10th minute, a lead they held until late in the second half.
Zebbug found an equalizer through Jake Sacco in the 74th minute, and the match appeared to be heading for a draw. However, three minutes into injury time, Nicholas Grima found the back of the net to spark wild celebrations for Sannat, moving them level on points at the top of the table.
St Lawrence Spurs FC 1-1 Munxar Falcons FC
League leaders St Lawrence Spurs were held to a frustrating draw by bottom-side Munxar Falcons in a match that ended in disciplinary chaos. The Falcons took the lead in the 36th minute via a Christian Grima own goal.
The Spurs fought back in the second half, with Felipe Augusto De Oliviera leveling the score in the 68th minute. The closing stages were marred by tension as Munxar Falcons were reduced to nine men; Oliver Curmi saw red in the 72nd minute, followed by Paul Vella deep in stoppage time (90+3’). Despite the numerical advantage, the Spurs could not find a winner, leaving the title race wide open.
