Frimpong injury forces Liverpool to consider backup right-backs

Liverpool have compiled a shortlist of emergency right-back options and are prepared to explore potential signings up until the final hours of the transfer window.
The move comes after Jeremie Frimpong suffered an injury that will sideline him, leaving Liverpool short in a position already depleted by Conor Bradley’s earlier injury against Arsenal. The right-back role has therefore become an immediate priority for the Reds.
A meeting of senior club officials on Thursday highlighted the need to assess the market and review available options. While sources suggest Liverpool have identified “a few” players who fit the profile, the club remain wary of making a rushed or panic signing.
Agents have approached the club with potential short-term solutions, but Liverpool are relying heavily on their own data and internal analysis to ensure any new addition meets the required standards.
While Dominik Szoboszlai could provide temporary cover at right-back, Liverpool view him as a stopgap rather than a long-term solution and prefer clarity on the position well before the deadline.
Liverpool had not initially planned to bring in a defender at this stage of the window, despite the ongoing need for a centre-back—a position they are expected to prioritise in the summer, with Micky van de Ven remaining a top target.
However, the injuries to Frimpong and Bradley have created a pressing dilemma. The club could still make another signing before the window closes, but only if they are confident the player offers the right balance of quality and suitability.
