Flick Hails Barcelona’s Fighting Spirit After Narrow Win Over Girona

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick was in buoyant spirits despite being sent off, as his side showed grit and determination to snatch a dramatic late victory over Girona.
The German coach will now miss next Sunday’s highly anticipated El Clásico clash with Real Madrid due to his red card but remained upbeat after his team’s resilient display earned three vital points.
“It was a fantastic match,” Flick said. “It’s very important to see how we got the three points for the future. This gives us confidence, and I’m very happy for the team.”
Flick acknowledged that while Barcelona created several opportunities, Girona also posed a serious threat in the first half.
“We created a lot of chances, but if we’re honest, Girona created a lot in the first half. The next few games are very important for us.”
The match-winning moment came from an unexpected source, as defender Ronald Araújo came off the bench in the 82nd minute and struck the decisive goal deep into stoppage time. Flick was full of praise for the Uruguayan’s commitment and versatility.
“I’m very happy for Araújo — his attitude, what he gives to this club and this team. He can play in that position when needed. I asked him before he came on if he could play there, and he said yes,” Flick revealed.
Despite his dismissal, the Barcelona coach explained that his passionate celebration after the late winner was purely out of joy for the result, not directed at anyone.
“The celebration wasn’t directed at anyone; it was because of how we had won,” he said. “I was happy. I don’t do anything against anyone, and I never will. I accept the referee’s decision.”
Flick’s men will now look to build on the momentum as they prepare for the showdown against Real Madrid next weekend, hoping to maintain their title charge under their spirited manager.
