England international Jarrad Branthwaite is facing another spell on the sidelines after it was confirmed that the defender will undergo hamstring surgery.

The 23-year-old, who has made 65 Premier League appearances over the past two seasons, has been out of action since August. Branthwaite signed a new long-term contract in July, tying him to Everton until 2030.

In a statement released on Monday, the club said:

“Following specialist consultation, it has been determined the defender will undergo a surgical procedure tomorrow to address the issue. Branthwaite will commence a structured rehabilitation programme under the supervision of the club’s medical team following the operation.”

Everton currently sit on 11 points from eight league matches and will host Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park on Sunday.
