Teenage midfielder Erica Meg Parkinson has been named in England’s squad announced on Tuesday for April’s Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Spain and Iceland.

The 17-year-old, who was born in Singapore and plays club football for Valadares Gaia in Portugal’s top division, earns her first senior call-up under England boss Sarina Wiegman after progressing through the youth system.

Parkinson previously featured in the Under-23 squad for matches against Norway and the United States last year, and has now been elevated to the senior side by Wiegman.

Meanwhile, Beth Mead returns to the 23-player squad after missing recent international fixtures due to a hairline fracture in her shin.

Alex Greenwood, captain of Manchester City, is also back after recovering from the injury that ruled her out of victories over Ukraine and Iceland.

However, injuries mean Aggie Beever-Jones, Grace Clinton and Ella Toone are not included in the squad.

The England women’s national football team will take on reigning world champions Spain women’s national football team at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday, 14 April, before heading to Reykjavik to face Iceland women’s national football team four days later.

The clash with Spain marks the first meeting between the sides since the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 Final, where Sarina Wiegman’s team secured back-to-back European titles.

Spain, however, were the side that defeated England in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final held in Sydney.

Looking ahead, the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup is scheduled to be staged in Brazil from 24 June to 25 July.
