Werder Bremen ended their four-match scoring drought but were denied victory in a frenetic 3–3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt, who extended their own winless Bundesliga run to four matches (D3, L1).

Both teams entered the contest in search of momentum, and it was Frankfurt who struck almost instantly. Just 51 seconds in, Ritsu Doan delivered a teasing cross that Nathaniel Brown headed back into the danger area, allowing Arnaud Kalimuendo to cleverly flick the ball over Mio Backhaus for his first goal since joining on loan from Nottingham Forest.

Rather than build on the early breakthrough, Frankfurt were soon put under pressure as Werder grew into the game. Justin Njinmah sent an early warning by narrowly dragging a shot wide after latching onto a Jens Stage pass, but he made amends less than 10 minutes later. This time, Yukinari Sugawara’s through ball released the forward, who rounded Nnamdi Collins before calmly sliding the ball under Kauã Santos to restore parity.

Werder looked the more threatening side thereafter, though Frankfurt’s league-worst away defence held firm until half-time to keep the scores level.

The hosts sought to capitalise on their renewed confidence after the break, but instead fell behind again 10 minutes into the second half. Fares Chaïbi floated a hopeful ball into the box, and Collins reacted quickest to prod it beyond Backhaus.

Chaïbi then missed a chance to extend Frankfurt’s lead, a moment that proved costly as Werder flipped the match on its head within three dramatic minutes. Stage equalised by climbing highest to meet Samuel Mbangula’s free-kick and looping his header over Santos.

With 10 minutes remaining, Werder completed the turnaround when Romano Schmid surged into the area and selflessly cut the ball back for substitute Jovan Milošević, who swept a composed finish into the near corner on just his second appearance for the club.

However, deep into stoppage time, heartbreak struck for the home side. Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab pulled the ball back from the byline, and Ansgar Knauff arrived unmarked to fire home a dramatic late equaliser.

Neither side will be fully satisfied with a point as both continue to endure lengthy winless runs, but Frankfurt may feel relieved to escape with a draw after their last-gasp rescue.
