Dr. Pierre Farrugia is the winner of the TGS Malta Fair Play Award covering January to March 2026. Fair play and humanity take centre stage during Valletta vs Tarxien Rainbows Encounter.

The Malta Sports Journalists Association (MSJA), in collaboration with the Malta Fair Play Movement and Together Gaming Solutions (TGS), has announced Dr. Pierre Farrugia as the latest recipient of the quarterly Fair Play Award. This accolade celebrates individuals or teams who demonstrate exceptional altruism and sportsmanship in the heat of competition.

A Moment Beyond Rivalry

The award-winning gesture took place on 8th March during a high-stakes Yohealth Malta Premier match between Valletta and Tarxien Rainbows. In the 78th minute, Tarxien player Da Silva Rosa suffered a serious injury that caused immediate alarm.

Ignoring the fierce rivalry on the pitch, Valletta FC’s club doctor, Dr. Pierre Farrugia, acted instantly. He sprinted across the field to provide emergency medical care to the opposing player, prioritizing a fellow human’s well-being over the clock or the competition.

Leadership in Sportsmanship

Dr. Farrugia’s instinctive response resonated throughout the stadium, earning praise from players, officials, and fans. In an era often defined by intense pressure, his actions served as a vital reminder that empathy and solidarity are the true foundations of sport.

“A true embodiment of fair play, Dr. Pierre Farrugia reminded us that humanity should always come before any sports rivalry,” stated Edward Licari, Director of Together Gaming Solutions.

The Presentation

The award was presented at the TGS offices in St. Julian’s by Office & HR Manager Andrea Critien. Also in attendance were MSJA Vice President Paul Cachia and Malta Fair Play Movement Chairman Charles Camenzuli.

The public is encouraged to nominate future acts of sportsmanship by emailing info@maltasportsjournalists.com.
