Dortmund edge past Mönchengladbach to climb to second in Bundesliga

Borussia Dortmund boosted their push for a top-four finish with a 2–0 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, recording a 13th consecutive home win against the Foals and extending their unbeaten Bundesliga run at the Westfalenstadion to 11 matches.
Eager to avoid another setback after surrendering leads in back-to-back games, Dortmund began on the front foot and once again struck first.
Making his first start in two months, Niklas Süle delivered a teasing cross to the far post, where Julian Brandt arrived unmarked to guide a beautifully controlled volley inside the far corner.
Dortmund remained firmly in control and could have doubled their advantage soon after. A slight touch from Nico Elvedi was all that prevented Serhou Guirassy from heading home, while goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas produced an excellent save to deny Karim Adeyemi from close range.
Mönchengladbach showed brief signs of life before the interval. Adeyemi was dispossessed in midfield, allowing Florian Neuhaus to surge into the left side of the area, but his effort was deflected wide by a perfectly timed intervention from Süle.
The visitors struggled to carry that momentum into the second half, as Dortmund dominated a combative opening period. Adeyemi again tested Nicolas, who was forced into a superb fingertip save, though tempers flared moments later following the winger’s robust challenge on Kevin Diks.
Gladbach rallied in search of an equaliser, and only a sharp reaction save from Gregor Kobel prevented 16-year-old substitute Wael Mohya from scoring with his first touch.
That proved to be their final real opportunity. Dortmund sealed the win in stoppage time when Maximilian Beier collected a pass from Fábio Silva and calmly swept the ball beyond Nicolas.
The victory moves Dortmund provisionally to within six points of Bayern Munich, although that gap could widen again with Bayern still to play on Sunday. For Gladbach, a strong November has been followed by a dip in form, but a five-point cushion over the relegation zone ensures they head into the winter break clear of danger.
