De Bruyne and McTominay Spark Napoli Revival in Win Over Inter

Napoli bounced back from Wednesday’s crushing 6-2 defeat to PSV with a convincing 3-1 home victory over Inter Milan, extending their unbeaten start to the Serie A season (W6, D2).
The early stages were evenly contested, but the match came to life around the half-hour mark. A clever flick from Frank Anguissa released Giovanni Di Lorenzo inside the box, where he was brought down by Henrikh Mkhitaryan. After a lengthy five-minute VAR check, Kevin De Bruyne showed composure to convert from the spot—though his night ended prematurely as he suffered a hamstring injury while taking the penalty.
Inter, led by Cristian Chivu, reacted positively and pressed hard for an equaliser. Denzel Dumfries and Francesco Acerbi both came agonisingly close, with headers that clipped the woodwork, but Napoli held firm to preserve their slender advantage at the break.
The visitors maintained their attacking intent after the restart, only to be undone by a moment of brilliance from Scott McTominay. A long ball initially seemed to have lost momentum, but the Scotsman adjusted superbly, swivelling to volley past Yann Sommer and double Napoli’s lead.
Inter quickly pulled one back through Hakan Çalhanoğlu, who coolly dispatched a penalty after Alessandro Buongiorno was penalised for handball following another VAR review.
However, Napoli responded in style once again. Anguissa capped an outstanding individual performance by surging through midfield, gliding past defenders, and rifling home a precise finish to seal the win.
The result maintains Napoli’s perfect home record this season — five wins in all competitions — and sends Antonio Conte’s side to the top of Serie A, three points ahead of Inter and one clear of AC Milan.
