The Dallas Cowboys have retained their position as the world’s most valuable sports team, according to Forbes’ latest rankings published on Thursday, with the list once again dominated by franchises from the National Football League.

The Cowboys, who overtook Spanish football giants Real Madrid for the top spot in 2016, were valued at $13 billion — a 29% increase on last year’s figure. Forbes noted that the NFL continued to assert its financial strength, with the majority of teams featuring prominently in the rankings.

The Golden State Warriors led the National Basketball Association contingent in second place overall with a valuation of $11 billion. They were followed by the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams ($10.5 billion) and New York Giants ($10.1 billion), while the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers completed the top five at $10 billion.

In total, 30 of the NFL’s 32 franchises appeared in Forbes’ top 50, alongside 12 NBA teams. The list also featured two teams each from Major League Baseball, Formula 1, LaLiga and the Premier League.

Football clubs were less prominent than in recent years, with only four making the cut: Real Madrid, Manchester United, Barcelona and Liverpool. That figure was down from seven in each of the previous two editions, with Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain all dropping out of the rankings.

The New York Yankees were the highest-ranked MLB team, valued at $8.2 billion and tied for 10th place overall. Real Madrid, valued at $6.75 billion, remained the most valuable football club and ranked 20th on the list.

Ferrari led the Formula 1 teams with a valuation of $6.5 billion, placing them joint 26th overall.

According to Forbes, the combined value of the world’s 50 most valuable sports teams now exceeds $353 billion, averaging $7.1 billion per team. That represents a 22% increase from 2024 and more than double the total valuation recorded just four years ago.
