Cunha cleared to play against West Ham, says Amorim

Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has been declared fit for Thursday’s Premier League match against West Ham United at Old Trafford, manager Ruben Amorim confirmed.
Amorim revealed that two players remain injury doubts and could impact his tactical plans, though he declined to identify them. Meanwhile, Harry Maguire and Benjamin Šeško are still sidelined.
“We have two doubts for the game, but I will not tell you today,” Amorim said on Wednesday. “It will change the way we approach it — let’s see if they can play. The rest of the squad is good. Matheus is back. Harry and Šeško are still out.”
Cunha’s return is a significant boost for United. The Brazilian missed the last two matches following a head injury, and his comeback provides valuable attacking impetus for a team sitting seventh in the league, three points off the top four.
Clearly delighted to be fit again, the 26-year-old posted a photo from training at Carrington with the caption: “Back back back.”
“Cunha can reach higher levels”
Amorim believes supporters have yet to see the full potential of one of United’s key summer signings.
“He has more levels to go,” the manager said. “He’s at a different club with different pressure. He was struggling because he wasn’t scoring and because of social media abuse. He was thinking too much about the numbers, but his influence on the team is very important. I think he has a lot of room to grow, offensively and defensively.”
Yoro urged to stay positive
French defender Leny Yoro, who conceded a penalty and was substituted after 53 minutes in United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, looked visibly upset on the bench. Amorim admitted that the 20-year-old can be too hard on himself.
“I spoke with him because he thinks too much,” Amorim said. “He makes a mistake and then he struggles. He wants to do everything so well. He’s growing — with matches and with setbacks. It’s not easy for him as a young player. He knows he cannot show his frustration the way he did on the bench. It shows he cares, but he is fit and ready for the next challenge.”
AFCON relief for United
United also received encouraging news from FIFA, which has shortened the release period for players heading to the Africa Cup of Nations from 14 days before their nation’s first match to seven.
As a result, Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast) and Bryan Mbeumo (Cameroon), whose countries begin their campaigns on December 24th, are expected to be available for United’s home fixture against Bournemouth on December 15th.
