Portuguese veteran Cristiano Ronaldo has sustained a hamstring tendon injury, his Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr FC announced on Tuesday, though his participation in the 2026 World Cup does not appear to be in doubt.

According to several media reports, the 41-year-old captain of the Portugal national team is expected to be sidelined for between two and four weeks. That timeline would see him return to action well before the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off in the United States, Mexico and Canada on June 11.

The club said Ronaldo “has started a rehabilitation programme and his condition will be assessed day by day,” suggesting a cautious approach to his recovery as the tournament approaches.

The former Manchester United F.C., Real Madrid CF and Juventus FC forward suffered the injury during a Saudi Pro League match against Al Fayha FC last month.

Ronaldo is aiming to feature in what would be a record sixth World Cup appearance, further extending a career that has already spanned more than two decades at the highest level of the game.
