Liam Rosenior’s appointment as Chelsea head coach is not expected to change the futures of three players earmarked to leave the club during the January transfer window.

Rosenior oversaw his first training session on Thursday and will make his touchline debut when Chelsea face Charlton in the FA Cup, beginning his six-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Despite the managerial change, Chelsea are anticipating a relatively quiet window. Sources indicate the club could make a single first-team signing if the right opportunity arises, but the main focus remains on player departures.

Axel Disasi, Raheem Sterling, and Tyrique George are all expected to move on before the window closes.

West Ham United are reportedly considering a move for Disasi as a backup option should their pursuit of Charlie Cresswell stall, while other clubs have also been offered the defender.

Sterling is exploring the possibility of staying in London, with West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Fulham showing varying levels of interest. Talks are ongoing, and no agreement has yet been reached. He would also consider a move abroad if the terms are right.

Young forward Tyrique George is likewise likely to leave this month. His agents have been working with Chelsea to explore options, with multiple clubs expressing interest. Given his age and profile, a deal is expected to be straightforward, with Chelsea hoping to complete it well before deadline day.

Earlier this season, under former head coach Enzo Maresca, there had been expectations that Chelsea could be more active in the transfer market. Maresca had highlighted a lack of depth at goalkeeper, centre-back, and striker as potential obstacles to silverware. However, differences over recruitment strategy with the board contributed to his departure, as Chelsea were reluctant to commit to significant signings at that stage.

Rosenior has spent the past few days assessing the squad and offering his views for the second half of the season, but the club sees this period as one of transition rather than a moment for major changes on the pitch.

Chelsea’s current approach is clear: limit disruption, minimise incomings, and focus on trimming the squad where possible. Any additional signings would be seen as a bonus, providing a lift as Rosenior officially begins his reign.
