The pressure was mounting on Nottingham Forest boss Ange Postecoglou, who knew that anything less than a win over Chelsea could push him closer to the sack.

Forest began brightly, showing early composure, and a careless Chelsea mistake gifted them a golden chance to go ahead through Elliot Anderson. But instead of shooting first time, Anderson cut inside and was quickly surrounded by white shirts, the opportunity gone.

Another defensive lapse midway through the first half offered Forest a second opening. The Chelsea backline misjudged a bouncing ball, allowing Douglas Luiz to nod it across goal for the unmarked Morgan Gibbs-White, who acrobatically volleyed over from close range.

A depleted Chelsea side—missing Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo, and Enzo Fernández—looked blunt in attack, with a tame Reece James free-kick from 30 yards summing up their toothless first-half display.

Yet despite their lack of threat, the visitors fashioned perhaps the best chance before the break. A frustrated João Pedro dropped deep and floated a superb pass over the top for Andrey Santos, whose left-footed strike drifted narrowly wide.

With Enzo Maresca serving a touchline ban following his red card against Liverpool before the international break, Chelsea’s first-half performance offered little to cheer. But his halftime changes proved decisive.

Although none of the substitutes directly contributed to the breakthrough, their energy sparked life into Chelsea’s attack. Pedro Neto drove powerfully down the left and delivered a pinpoint cross for Josh Acheampong, who powered a header home from six yards to open the scoring.

Chelsea suddenly looked transformed and doubled their lead just three minutes later when Neto thundered in a free-kick from the edge of the area.

Forest’s misery deepened when Igor Jesus diverted Callum Hudson-Odoi’s cross onto both the bar and post—a moment that perfectly captured the home side’s mounting frustration.

The visitors added a third late on when Reece James smashed home from a half-cleared corner, sealing Chelsea’s fourth win in 15 top-flight away games. A late red card for Malo Gusto took a little shine off the result, but the damage was done.

With Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis leaving his seat well before full-time, the writing now appears to be on the wall for Ange Postecoglou.
