Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick has spoken confidently ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Since taking charge following the departure of Ruben Amorim last month, Carrick has guided United to maximum points, winning all three of his opening matches. Victories over Arsenal and Manchester City have sent a strong message across the league, with the Red Devils firmly back in the race for European qualification.

Reflecting on his early spell in charge, Carrick highlighted the belief growing within his squad.

“Coming in at the start, the games came around so quickly. It was very much step by step, and I wasn’t looking too far ahead,” Carrick said. “The first two matches were big tests, and in some ways that helped focus everyone and bring the group to life.

“Over time, we’ve developed a clearer idea of how we want to play and the direction we’re heading in. We’re confident because there’s still a lot of growth in this team and squad.”

A victory on Saturday would see United surpass last season’s 42-point total, but Carrick is well aware of the challenge posed by Spurs, who drew 2-2 with Manchester City last weekend.

“They’ll be a tough test,” he added. “The way they finished against City showed their quality. They’ve had injuries and changes, which makes things difficult, but they’re starting to get players back.

“They have very good attackers who like to stretch the defence and get into the box. It’ll be a different type of game to what we’ve faced recently, but we’re in a good place and looking forward to it.”

Carrick also praised his players’ attitude in training and stressed the importance of staying grounded.

“The boys have worked really well again this week. We’re keeping our feet on the ground and not getting carried away. It’s about what comes next. There’s a big challenge ahead, and we’re ready for it.”
