Dominic Calvert-Lewin continued his fine run of form by scoring in a fourth consecutive Premier League match, heading home late on to earn Leeds United a valuable 1-1 draw away at Brentford.

Brentford, who had slipped into the bottom half of the table following successive defeats, were eager to respond against 17th-placed Leeds. However, clear chances were at a premium in a cautious opening, with the visitors fashioning the best opportunity of the first half-hour when Noah Okafor forced Caoimhín Kelleher into a smart save with a well-struck angled effort.

The hosts briefly thought they had the chance to open the scoring when Dango Ouattara went down under a challenge from Gabriel Gudmundsson inside the penalty area. VAR review, though, overturned the decision, ruling the Burkinabé winger offside in the build-up.

Both sides showed greater attacking intent as the half wore on. Keane Lewis-Potter tested Lucas Perri with a driven effort that was pushed away, while Okafor went close again for Leeds but dragged a close-range volley wide of the target.

Leeds, winless in their previous nine top-flight matches in London, emerged with renewed purpose after the interval. Ao Tanaka and Calvert-Lewin both threatened early in the second half but failed to find the target as Daniel Farke’s side looked to increase the tempo.

Despite Leeds’ pressure, it was Brentford who struck first in the 70th minute. Rico Henry’s low cut-back found Jordan Henderson in space, and the midfielder made no mistake, finishing neatly to score his first goal for the Bees.

Leeds responded positively and were rewarded late on. With eight minutes remaining, Wilfried Gnonto delivered a precise cross into the box, and Calvert-Lewin timed his run perfectly to glance a header into the far corner, maintaining his impressive scoring streak.

The equaliser set up a tense finish in west London, but aside from a late chance for Ouattara, neither side could find a winner. The draw extends Leeds’ strong recent record against Brentford, leaving them with just one defeat in their last seven meetings.
