Arsenal F.C. star Bukayo Saka has signed a new long-term contract with the club, committing his future to the Premier League leaders.

The winger hinted at the news during Wednesday night’s dramatic 2-2 draw away at Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C.. After helping his side race into a 2-0 lead before surrendering their advantage, Saka celebrated by miming the signing of a contract — a gesture that all but confirmed he would be staying in north London.

The club has now officially announced the extension, with Saka speaking to the Arsenal website about what the moment means to him and his family.

“I’m feeling amazing. I think it’s a fantastic moment for my family and for me. I feel immense joy to continue my journey at this club,” he said. “For me, it was an easy commitment and I just hope to win everything here.

“The journey that I’ve been on, from where I started to where I am now, and the journey the team’s been on as well, is a special one.

“I believe the next few years are going to be the years that we get over the line, and we’re able to win trophies and make history for this club. We’re back where we belong, fighting for everything.”

The timing of the announcement adds extra excitement ahead of the highly anticipated North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur F.C.. Arsenal will be aiming to claim all three points against a Spurs side set to take charge under interim boss Igor Tudor for the first time.

Arsenal have topped the Premier League table for 147 days this season, and victory in the derby could stretch their advantage to eight points, depending on how reigning champions Manchester City F.C. fare against Newcastle United F.C. the previous day.
