Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has praised the influence of interim manager Michael Carrick, crediting him with transforming the atmosphere at Old Trafford following four consecutive victories since taking charge.

Fernandes was on target as United secured a 2-0 win over 10-man Tottenham on Saturday, strengthening their position in the Premier League’s top four and continuing their impressive recent form.

Carrick remains unbeaten in seven matches across two spells as interim boss, underlining his growing reputation as a steady and effective leader during periods of transition.

Before the weekend, the former midfielder urged the club’s hierarchy not to rush their decision regarding the appointment of a permanent manager. However, United’s performances and results since Ruben Amorim’s departure last month are increasingly strengthening Carrick’s case for a longer-term role.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Fernandes highlighted the positive impact Carrick has had on the squad.

“Carrick came in with the right ideas, giving the players responsibility and freedom on the pitch,” Fernandes said. “I was sure he would be a great manager, and he is showing it now. We hope we can help him even more.

“Everyone understands the pressure of playing for this club and the expectations that come with it. He knows what it means to win here, and that adds something special to the team.”

The victory moved United to within two points of third-placed Aston Villa and created a valuable cushion over their nearest rivals in the race for Champions League qualification.

With English clubs performing strongly in European competitions this season, a top-five finish is expected to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.

United are now five points clear of sixth-placed Liverpool, who face title contenders Manchester City on Sunday, further strengthening their hopes of returning to Europe’s elite competition.
