Brighton’s Hürzeler expresses hope Salah plays against his side

Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler says he would welcome seeing Mohamed Salah in Liverpool’s starting lineup when the two sides meet on Saturday.
The Seagulls travel to Anfield sitting eighth in the table, two places above Liverpool. Asked about the ongoing discussions surrounding Salah, Hürzeler made it clear he would have no issue with the Egyptian forward featuring.
“We always want to face the best players and the best teams,” he said. “To be honest, we have no idea how Liverpool will line up, which players will face us, or what formation they’ll use. But we like the challenge.”
Questioned about reports of tension between Salah, manager Arne Slot, and the club’s hierarchy, Hürzeler stressed that Brighton’s focus must remain internal.
“It’s about us—sticking to our principles and our style of play,” he said. “Whatever situation Liverpool are in, it will be a big challenge. We’ll go there, face it, and try to win.”
Both sides seeking consistency
Reflecting on the trip to Anfield, Hürzeler acknowledged that both teams have endured inconsistency this season.
“We’ve also been up and down,” he admitted. “At the moment, maybe only two clubs in the league are truly consistent. Everyone else is battling each other—it’s very competitive, and Liverpool are part of that.
“Every game is an opportunity for us to win, and throughout this season we’ve shown we can beat strong teams.”
Ferguson could still return
Hürzeler also addressed the situation of striker Evan Ferguson, currently on loan at Roma. Before the Irishman scored twice in Roma’s Europa League victory over Celtic, there had been speculation about the loan potentially ending in January.
Hürzeler confirmed the club is monitoring the situation closely.
“Evan is a player for us, so he will always be an option,” he said. “At the moment he’s on loan, but we’re following him, and we’re pleased with how he performed yesterday. So yes, he could definitely be an option.”
